Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a copy of my driver record?

If you have received a traffic citation, many courts in Texas require you to submit a copy of your certified driver record along with a defensive driving certificate of completion. Some employers may also request a copy of your standard driver record as part of a background check.

Am I eligible to request my driver record?

As long as you have a valid Texas driver's license, you are eligible to request your driver record online. You will be required to fill out a DR1 Form. With Texas Records to Go, this form can be filled-out and signed online, or it can be downloaded for printing and signature, and then faxed to our office at 800-749-0025 for processing.

Where can I get a copy of my driver record?

All driver record requests must be processed by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) in Austin, Texas. You may order a copy of your driver record from the DPS in one of three ways:
  1. By visiting the DPS in Austin.
  2. Mailing your request to the same location.
  3. Ordering your record online through Texas Records to Go.

Why should I order my driver record through Texas Records To Go?

Ordering your driver record through Texas Records To Go is fast and simple. Let us do the work. We guarantee that your record request will be submitted to the DPS the day you order it. We also offer expedited shipping through FedEx, whereas with the DPS your only option is regular US Mail.

How long will it take to get my record from Texas Records To Go?

Once you have submitted your signed DR1 form to us, we will submit your form to the DPS for processing. The DPS generally takes 7-10 days to process your record. Once your record has been processed, the DPS will ship it to you according to the method of shipping you selected at registration.

What if my record doesn't arrive on time?

As stated on the DR1 form, the DPS can take as long as 3-weeks to process your record. This is unusual and will only occur in the event of an extreme backlog of orders. Texas Records To Go has no control over DPS processing time. For this reason, we strongly encourage you to order your record well in advance of your court due date. Further, we encourage you to order expedited shipping through FedEx, which has a far better track record of delivering on time than does the USPS. It's also important to note that only you may contact the DPS to check on the status of your driver record. The DPS may be reached at 512-424-2600.

Does my driver record have to be sent to my home address?

Yes. The DPS will NOT deliver driver records to a place of business due to the confidential nature of the document. Therefore, you should select a residential delivery address and not a business address.

What happens if my driver record gets lost in the mail or if I enter the wrong information on my DR1 form - can I get my money back?

Unfortunately, once your DR1 form is submitted to the DPS we cannot give you a refund for your driver record order. The DPS charges Texas Records To Go a fee for every record we submit for processing, so if your record is lost in the mail or if you entered the wrong information on the form and the DPS rejects the order you are responsible for the charge. However, we can resubmit a record request on your behalf for an additional fee.

How can I pay for my driver record?

We accept online check and credit card payments. The following credit cards are acceptable:
  • Visa
  • Mastercard
  • American Express
  • Discover
  • Personal Check
